4 Ways to Get the Most Out of Your Inks and Toners

toner maintenance

Printing isn't cheap. So, how can you make the most of what you have?
Having to constantly replace ink and toner cartridges will have a big impact on your bottom line. However, there are ways to reduce the number of printing supplies you use. Besides just using common sense when it comes to deciding what needs to be printed and what does not, here are some tips to help you get the most out of your inks and toners.

1. Print in Draft Mode
Unless you’re printing the final presentation copy, try printing in draft mode. This reduces the amount of ink used per print job. You can even set draft-mode as the default on your printer and then change it when you’re ready to print the final version. A few printers will also have a mode for toner saving, which will result in some big savings.

2. Use Small Fonts
Arial and New Courier are very ink-friendly fonts because they’re easy to ready, but don’t require a lot of ink to print. Using these small fonts and going easy on the bolded text will save ink and even the amount paper required to print.

3. Print Only What You Need
Don’t print the entire document every time. Instead, print just the pages or sections you need. Using printwhatyoulike.com or printerfriendly.com, is a great way to print only the content you need and avoid printing advertisements.

4. Keep on Printing
Pay no heed to the out-of ink warnings you get from your printer and just keep on printing. You might be surprised by how much ink still remains in the cartridges when the warning flashes. Feel free to get a replacement cartridge ready, but keep on printing until the print quality gets bad enough to justify the change.
